Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion Policy
(EDI Policy)
The Wollaton Historical & Conservation Society EDI Policy serves as a mutual "Code of Conduct" rather than a legal document.
No person is employed or remunerated by our Society and we are a registered charity.
We expect all our members to read, understand, and agree to abide by this policy.
This EDI Policy may be modified at any time. If changes are made, the “Page Last Updated” date (at the bottom of this page) will be revised.
Code of Conduct
The following "Code of Conduct" applies to all our members, including those who offer their services as a volunteer with us.
- Statement of Purpose:
- Our Society is run entirely by volunteers for the benefit of our community. Our purpose is as stated on our Home page. We believe that everyone should feel welcome, valued, and respected when giving their time or using our services. We are committed to creating an inclusive environment free from discrimination, bullying, and harassment.
- Who It Applies To and What Is Expected:
- This policy applies to all our members, volunteers, committee members, and trustees. When representing our Society, you are expected to treat fellow members, volunteers, and members of the public with dignity. We will not tolerate language, jokes, or behaviour that discriminates against anyone based on their age, disability, gender, race, religion, or sexual orientation.
- Making Membership and Volunteering Accessible:
- We want our Society to reflect our whole community. We will look for ways to make our meetings, activities, and communication accessible to everyone. If you need any practical adjustments or support to be a member, or to volunteer with us, please let us know and we will do our best to help.
- How to Raise an Issue:
- If you feel you have been treated unfairly, or if you witness discriminatory behaviour, please speak to our Chair. If your concern involves that person, please contact any other committee member. We promise to listen to your concerns, keep them confidential, and take them seriously.
- Resolving Problems:
-
If a member or volunteer behaves in a way that goes against this policy, our committee will first seek to resolve the issue informally and offer guidance. However, if the behaviour is serious, causes harm, or continues after a warning, the committee reserves the right to ask the individual to leave the group permanently to protect our wider membership and the public.

Method of Implementation
The Wollaton Historical & Conservation Society will implement this policy by directing all our current and new members, including our volunteers, committee members, and trustees, to conform to this "Code of Conduct" when representing our Society.
Members will be made aware of this EDI Policy page annually. By virtue of their paid membership, members are deemed to have read, understood, and agreed to abide by this "Code of Conduct".
For clarification on this policy, speak to any member of the committee, or please let us know using the website Contact form.
