Wollaton Walled Garden Bothy
Added on 01 December 2025
There is only one reference to the Wollaton Walled Garden bothy in any census, and that is in the 1911 census when it was occupied by two people.
It appears that the bothy must have been made by converting a potting shed, by lowering the ground floor and then inserting a new first floor beneath the existing roof level. If that is right, then the four pairs of windows would have been inserted at the same time.
The bothy finally received the go ahead for restoration in late 2025 and approved building work for this, and the adjoining potting sheds, is now underway.
In restoring it back to what it looked like in 1910, we are fortunate to have this photograph of how it looked from the south and we have the surviving brickwork on the other two faces.
